A week in Santorini in May
We got inspired to go after reading an article about the many hiking possibilities on the island and obviously by the beautiful pictures of Santorini.
The island is very small and most people visit for a couple days or even less, judging from the massive cruise ships unloading thousands of passengers at the time for a quick few hours in Oia or Fira the quintessential places for postcard like pictures.
We choose to stay in Pyrgos in the center of the island. It is a small typical village with a nice atmosphere and without the crowds but with plenty of great cafes and restaurants. I personally would not have liked to stay in Oia, Fira or anywhere else.
The most famous hike is on the Fira to Oia trail; gorgeous views and a truly amazing hike not to be missed. The other hikes were not as spectacular but offered more insight into small villages on the interior. We also went to a neighboring island (Thirassia) for a half day. The island is pretty deserted and it was fun to discover.
