Fronalpstock - Central Switzerland
Switzerland is a small country but it is so rich and diverse that it is wise to take time exploring it. We are very spoiled to live in a beautiful part of Switzerland (Gruyère district in the canton of Fribourg) that we don't often feel like traveling two-three hours to reach other destinations.
After being in semi confinement for a couple months we felt the need to explore farther and so we decided to do an overnight trip to central Switzerland. We based ourselves in Stoos in the canton of Schwyz. Since it is a carless village we parked our car just above Schwytz town and took the most extraordinary funicular ride to Stoos. It is the steepest in the world with a maximum incline reaching 110%.
From Stoos we hiked to the summit of Fronalpstock which sits at 1920 meters. The hike was very pleasant and quite beautiful but the views at the summit were the highlight of the day. Sitting there looking at the uniquely shaped Lake of Four Cantons and the surrounding mountains was breathtaking.
